News

Both our Spring and our Autumn Retreat at Sarum College, Salisbury were full last year and were greatly enjoyed by all participants. Our Autumn Retreat 23-25 October this year is now fully booked. Our dates for next year are 30 April – 2 May and 8-10 October.

Last month (February), I spent two weeks in Chennai studying at the KYM. As always, I have come back from these trips with new insights I’m keen to share! I also took a side trip by train, unaccompanied, to Tiruvannamalai to visit the ashram of Sri Ramana Maharshi located at the holy mountain of Arunachala. A great place and lovely people!

From 14-18 August I had another a great time at the LoveJam Campout near Glastonbury. The reception for my classes was great; this time I was only booked to do all three mornings. Another affirming experience in which I learned as well as taught. Sadly, the organisers are needing to take a break next year, so we’ll have to wait until 2027!

My book ‘Breath for Health’ can be ordered online by following the links on my publisher’s website collectiveinkbooks. If you purchased a copy from Amazon, please be kind enough to post a review. This only need to be a line or two, numbers of reviews count. I also post updates on Facebook @breath4health and I now have an author’s website breath4health.yoga where you can find more details about my book and read my blogs on breathing matters. I am available to present 3-hour talk and practical seminars on better breathing.

Since we spent some time together at the Kallyani Ayurvedic Centre in Kerala, I’ve been corresponding regularly with Dr Timothy McCall, former medical adviser to Yoga Journal and the author of Yoga as Medicine (Bantam). Last October, Dr McCall and his co-editors published a second edition of The Principles and Practice of Yoga In Healthcare (Handspring).

Podcasts on which I’ve been invited: Dr Amy Wheeler (Yoga Therapy Hour) Yoga Therapy Hour ; J. Brown (on the topic of Yoga Therapy) J. Brown; Danielle Sax (on Breathing and Stress) UK Health Radio; Paula Vail (Elevating Your Life) KMET-TV;  Rev. Carol Saunders on The Spritual Forum. Recently, with former BBC correspondent Humphrey Hawksley on Goldster.

Continuing Professional Development

If you are looking for a tutor to deliver an interesting, instructive and inspiring CPD day for yoga teachers in your area, I am currently still available to offer an in-depth look at the material both in my book ‘Breath for Health’ and many yoga topics beyond, with always the opportunity to pose questions. Click here to see testimonials from my former BWY Foundation Course students.

I also have responsibilites as Chair of the British Council for Yoga Therapy. Yoga Therapy, which helps people improve their own health by practising bespoke daily exercise, has benefits which often complement those available from conventional medicine. Therefore, one of my responsibilities is to oversee the promotion of yoga therapy to the wider public.

My Day Seminars

Last year, 2024, I taught three Breath for Health seminars, one in Stockbridge, Hampshire and two in Salisbury.  I have also had a Breath for Health CPD Day accepted by the British Wheel of Yoga for presentation at the invitation of their Regional Training officers.

My Weekend Yoga Study Retreats

Apart from a break in 2020-21, these twice-yearly retreats have been going since 2010 and offer a highly successful mix of yoga practice (postures, breathing, chanting and meditation) with discussions on ways the teachings of yoga can help us lead more fulfilled lives. In recent years, our weekends been held at the spiritual centre of Sarum College in the beautiful setting of Salisbury Cathedral Close. Next year (2026) we will start with a Spring Retreat 1-3 May, on which I will again be joined by Liz Murtha. Drawing on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra and Mr Desikachar’s ‘In Search of Mind’ (KYM, 2001) to look at how tour experience of Mind is understood within Yoga, under the title ‘Modelling the Mind’. Sorry, NOW FULL. Our Autumn retreat 23-25 October on Stability and Change, see Autumn 2026 Ad Colour has also sold out.
