How to Edit your Pages

Introduction – some important things to note

  1. The content of your existing page can be edited using the built-in text editor that opens when you click on the title of a Page.
  2. Your site’s content editor is not an accurate visual representation of what will appear on the site’s front end. It shows text in black and white and blue for links. That’s all. You can add headings and body text and can use the formatting icons to apply bold, underline etc. if you wish to do so. But you won’t see the colours until you publish the page and look at the site’s front end.
  3. Your website will apply built-in styles when you Publish or Update a page. The build-in styles include grey body text, H1 and H2 headings. H3 to H6 will also display as green but use sparingly. It is best to stick to H1 and H2, and bold.
  4. You must not add your text styles or colours using the editor. Otherwise, your site will begin to look messy and difficult to maintain consistency across the site. Trust your site to apply the correct formatting to your text.
  5. Do not create new pages. They will not appear on your site. Just edit the content that is already there under each page title. If you need a new page, contact me with the title of the page and I will add a blank page and link it up to the main menu. You can then add your content.

How to edit a page

There are tabs for each of your pages on the left of this screen – Home Page Text, Classes Page etc. Click on the appropriate tab.

Then click on the title of the page you wish to edit. When you click on a page title, the WordPress text editor will appear for that page. It works like any text editor. You can add text, remove text, add or remove images etc. When you have completed your edits, click on the blue Update button to the right of the editor. Then check the front of your site to see how things look. Repeat the process as required. Generally, it is a good idea to centre as much content as possible because it looks better on the mobile version of the site. However, if you have a large block of text, it is not always appropriate.

Important – Do not create a new page. If you do, it will not appear on your site. You can only edit what’s already there. If you ever wish to add a new page, email me and I will add a blank page for you and link it up to the main menu.

How to add images or pdfs to your site

First, upload your media to your Media library. Click on the Media Tab and then click on the Add New Media Library File. Follow the on-screen instructions for uploading your pdf or image.

Next go to Pages tab and choose the page you wish to edit. Move your cursor to where you want to insert the image/pdf, and click on the Add Media tab. This will open your media library and you can choose your item (which you have just uploaded).
